It was during last week of January when I was scrolling through LinkedIn and I came to know about GSSoC from a post. I registered for the same at the first week of February as a participant .

Seems like some coding competition which will run throughout the Summer, but what actually it is?

GirlScript Summer of Code ( GSSoC) is a 3 month long online coding competition aiming to help beginners get started with Open Source Development. It started on the 1st March and ended on 31st May 2019.

Journey

After registering for GSSoC , I received the email confirmation regarding my participation in this event. After that I joined their slack channel. There were numerous projects selected for contributing in GSSoC 2019 and I selected a few of them.

Firstly, I started my contribution to a Web based project Techtonica under their repository curriculum. I started solving few issues for the organisation and after few weeks my thought of contributing expanded to land up solving issues in another project namely MathBall.

I made ample amount of contributions to Techtonica and a few contributions to MathBall during GSSoC. Thanks to Alina Lodalh , who helped me a lot during this journey of GSSoC as an admin of curriculum. I would also like to thank Priyabrata Biswas who initially helped me a lot while contributing to MathBall| JavaScript library for competitive programming.

I landed up being the top contributor in GirlScript Summer of Code 2019.I was accustomed with Open Source Contribution as I started contributing to it from Hacktoberfest 2018. But this journey of GSSoC helped me to alot to work in an Open Source Community and meet with future developers.

I would definitely recommend this program to my juniors as well as to the newbies in the world of Open Source as GSSoC is a great platform to start of with open source contribution and explore their mind with such like minded peoples.

Long live Open Source !!!
